Top-5 Reasons to Volunteer at a Golf Event This Year

Written by SCGA Staff | Mar 12, 2026 7:45:46 PM

This late-Spring, the USGA will bring two prestigious women’s championships to Los Angeles on back-to-back weekends. First up, the U.S. Women’s Open Presented by Ally at The Riviera CC and right after that, it’s over to Bel-Air CC for the Curtis Cup Match.

Here are five great reasons to volunteer at one or both of these events.

 5. No Experience Required

Ever read a job posting that you’re interested in, and you get to the part where the employer wants half a decade of experience that you don’t have? That’s not the case here. There are volunteer assignments for first timers and training sessions for slightly more complicated roles. The USGA relies on volunteers of all backgrounds. They are the best-in-the-business at getting everyone, regardless of experience, ready for the job.

4. (Nearly) Free Golf!

Besides paying for the volunteer apparel package (which you get to keep), volunteering means getting access to a premier golf event for free. Sure, you’ll be working – but many of the gigs are on-course and involve up-close encounters with players or great views of the action because of a hole assignment. Parking and meal(s) are also included. In today’s economy? What a deal!

3. Location, Location, Location

The Riviera CC and Bel-Air CC are two of the most beautiful golf properties in the world. They’re not exactly public either. Being able to call these places your office for a few days is an opportunity that does not come around too often.

2. Supporting Women’s Golf

The women’s game is the best it’s ever been. On the amateur level, more women have come to golf than any other group since 2020. On the professional level, the talent is at its very deepest. The women’s game deserves as much support as possible. Robust crowds made up of patrons and volunteers are a great way for this region to show these players that Southern California is an undeniable champion of women’s golf.

1. What Other Sport Does This?

How lucky are we that our favorite game to watch and play offers us the chance to be a part of its prestigious events through volunteering? NFL fans can’t work the sidelines simply be clicking a link. NBA fans won’t get courtside just by signing up. MLB fans aren’t ushering the field level concourses because they asked to. This unparalleled access for volunteering only comes through golf. So take advantage!
