These months of quarantine have us dreaming of a time when we can be back outside with other people and enjoying our favorite outdoor pastimes. If you're a golfer and aren't already a member of a golf club, you're missing out on a precious opportunities to do both at once. Here are 7 reasons joining a club will elevate your golf experience like never before:
1. Community
Don't let the quarantine extend to your post-quarantine golf game. As we begin to return to some normalcy in our lives, we'll be craving time to reconnect with people (except maybe those we were stuck at home with). One perfect way to do this is by finding a group of fellow golfers where you can rekindle your shared love of golf while still being safe.
2. Fun
You've been inside so long you think "having fun" is drinking a beer at 10 a.m. Time to get out and have some fun with actual people. The good news is that drinking beer at 10 a.m. is acceptable as long as your on the golf course. Two rules I've learned in life: Don't Drink Alone. Don't Golf Alone.
3. Competition
Your competition for the last 3 months has been to see how long you go without eating a bag of chips. Now you can compete in something meaningful out on the course.
4. Handicap
After all this time on the couch, it's understandable if you feel a little lost on the course. You're going to need some extra strokes now more than ever. Most clubs host net events, which means your Handicap Index factors into your final score. Don't let your rusty game stop you from playing competitive golf (just don't be a sandbagger).
5. Ease
If you've tried to grab a tee time since golf courses have reopened, you know that finding that prime weekend slot is tougher than finding a grocery store with toilet paper in stock. Let your club tournament organizer handle securing tee times so you can just show up and play. Plus you won't have to worry about being paired with some random golfer with a suspicious cough.
6. Rules
With golf's return, there may be some new rules you're gonna have to learn to do play golf in the time of "social distancing". Your local golf club will definitely have a few resident rules experts to explain how to adjust to the new course guidelines.
7. Relief
The last couple months have been utter insanity. You deserve a break from it all. What better way than by spending a few hours playing your favorite game, enjoying being outside, and sharing your "stuck at home horror stories" with some new friends?
