Benefits of Unplugging and Playing Golf

Unlike many other sports, golf has the ability to be used as both a social and physical activity. Golf provides these opportunities because of the way the game is played. You are paired with other players and can play the game at your own pace, rather than be forced to finish because of a clock.

That being said, golf also offers us a way to get away from our daily lives and enjoy some time outdoors while doing something we love. Let's talk a look at the benefits of unplugging and playing golf.

Being in the Outdoors

Besides the obvious health benefits that golf provides, being outdoors is also a great thing for our bodies. There have been studies that showed being outdoors relaxes the body and helps to alleviate stress. Being in the sun will also expose you to Vitamin D, which is helpful for bone growth and reducing the risk of heart disease. Of course, you should always wear sunscreen when you are out on the course.

Better Brain

As you participate in physical activities, the blood flow through your brain is increased. This helps stimulate and improve nerve cell connections, which can delay mental illnesses such as dementia. Golf can also improve your hand-eye coordination and keep you on your toes when it comes to developing strategies.

Social Activity

Like I mentioned in the opening, golf is great for social interactions. People from all walks of life play golf and you never know who you will meet on the course. Even though you want to perform better than someone else, the competitive nature of the sport is done in a social setting.

Physical Exercise

Did you know that walking one round of 18 holes is the equivalent of about 3-4 miles? The constant motion will get your heart rate going and the blood pumping through your body. If you are able to walk 18 holes 2-3 times a week, think about how much exercise you are getting. Then you can add in the hundreds of swings that you will be taking.

Escape Daily Life

The best part of about golf is the ability to get away from everything for about four to five hours. You don't have to worry about your job, family, or anything else that is going on in your life. For some people, playing golf is the only time they can get away from the constant hustle and bustle of life.

Great Excuse

Golf is a great excuse to get away from a dinner with the in-laws or a dentist appointment that you had booked months in advance.

  • Dentist: "Hi, are you coming in?"
  • You: "For what? I'm playing golf today."

The length of golf gives you time to plan when you want to show up for a dinner or party.
